About the award
The Golden Boot is awarded annually to the top goalscorer across all European top tiers.
To rank the top goalscorers, the number of goals scored is multiplied by a factor determined by the league's ranking on the UEFA coefficients list, which in turn depend on the results of each league's clubs in European competition over the previous five seasons.

When the award is presented in 2023, it will be based on league seasons that started the year before, in 2022. This means that the 2022 season will count for tournaments that run within a calendar year, such as the Norwegian top tier, and the 2022/2023 season for tournaments that span over two calendar years, such as the Premier League.
The award has been presented since the 1967-68 season and has been conferred by European Sports Media since 1996-97.
